Alex worked on understanding the role of legacy phosphorus in reservoir sediments in initiating harmful algal blooms. Her study focused on Carlyle Lake, a large man-made lake in southern Illinois, where she mapped water and sediment phosphorus and nitrogen levels. Alex also conducted lab mesocosm experiments to understand nutrient fluxes from sediments to the water column.
